Virtual Proms, Virtual Graduations, & All the Ways to Celebrate your Grad while in quarantine!
First of all, I would like to congratulate all of the graduates of 2020. You have worked hard, and you have achieved a great feat which required discipline, hard work, and dedication to your studies. From one student to another, congratulations!!!!!
I graduated with my Associates in Psycholgoy in 2019, and I cannot fathom the devastation of not being able to walk across the stage, attend my prom, or host my graduation party. Unfortuneately, the class of 2020 does have to deal with the COVID_19 pandemic and lcokdown, therefore, they will miss graduation, prom, the final days of childhood, and much more. While this is a travesity, there are multiple organizations making it so that graduates can still celebrate their accomplishments.
While schools are have switched to virtual graduations, students have stepped up all over and created virtual prom and graduation challenges. One of the most inspirational virtual proms featured DJ Jazzy Jeff this past May 2nd, through an instagram account created by a brother — sister duo, Hannah and Charlie Lucas. The “We Are Well Prom” was created to offer a safe place to celebrate and come together while acknowledging that graduates may be experiencing depression, anxiety, and PTSD from being quarantined and missing the celebrations for their achievements. Not only does “We Are Well Prom” offer the much needed mental health support for graduates, but it also is giving away $45,000 in grants for graduating high school students. WOW! The event was a complete success, and there are many more like it!
DJ D-Nice has teamed up with the app Houseparty to have a virtual prom on May 7th, 2020 at 8pm, EST. Don’t miss this awesome event to be yourself and to be apart of a greater community! Pick your theme, take your promo photos, and dance the night away!
Hollywood reporter has put together a list of graduation commencement speaches that were created for the Class of 2020, as well. Stars such as Oprah, Obama, and Kevin Hart have teamed up to provide inspiration and encouragement for graduates. Don’t let quarantine ruin your celebration. This is a time to be creative, connected, and celebrated!
